Venom Vs. Carnage?

Posted: June 22, 2017 in Movie

Carnage will reportedly be the villain in the Venom solo film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock will be facing off against Carnage. In the comics, Carnage is a symbiote, just like Venom, who attached to Brock’s prison cellmate, serial killer Cletus Kassidy.

After Brock manages to escape prison by using the symbiote, some of it was left behind and attached to Kassidy, transforming him into Carnage. Carnage’s powers include shapeshifting, physical strength that’s more powerful than Venom and Spider-Man combined, and the ability to plant thoughts into people’s minds. The Hollywood Reporter has also heard that, even though Spider-Man star Tom Holland is only contractually obligated to Spider-Man 2 and 3, the plan is to still bring him into the spinoffs films, like Venom, as well as potentially other Marvel movies. Venom will open in theaters on October 5, 2018, with Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer set to direct. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Amy Pascal are producing the film. Reports suggest Venom will be of the action, horror, and sci-fi genres. You can watch Holland portray the web-slinging hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which opens in theaters on July 7. He will also appear in Avengers: Infinity War, which opens on May 4, 2018.

The late actor Adam West, who died last week at the age of 88, will portray the Caped Crusader one final time in the forthcoming DC animated film, Batman vs. Two-Face. It has been confirmed with Warner Bros. that West had finished recording his vocals for the film months prior to his passing. A sequel to 2016’s Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, Batman vs. Two-Face also brings back Burt Ward as the voice of Robin and Julie Newmar as the voice of Catwoman.

In addition to those aforementioned cast members, the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face — a classic Bat-villain who never appeared on West’s 1960s, live-action TV series — will be voiced by Star Trek’s William Shatner. The project was announced at New York Comic Con last October. Batman vs. Two-Face will be released on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD later this year.

Aquaman will take place after the events of Justice League. In an interview with CinemaBlend, executive producer Charles Roven confirmed the solo film will contain story elements tied to the superhero team-up movie. “There will be some reference of something that preceded Aquaman that will be in Aquaman,” Roven said. “I believe that is the intention.” Unlike the upcoming Wonder Woman movie (read IGN’s review), which is set decades before the Justice League is formed, Aquaman will reference the events of Justice League in some capacity. “James Wan definitely knows where he’s going with Aquaman, and that movie takes place in a world where Justice League happened, and Man of Steel happened,” Roven said. Justice League hits theaters on November 17, while Aquaman will open in theaters on December 21, 2018. Earlier this year, Aquaman star Jason Momoa revealed the aquatic hero “doesn’t know how to handle his powers” in the solo movie. For more on the film, which will explore the “hate-turned-love” dynamic between Momoa’s Aquaman and Amber Heard’s Mera, check out the film’s official logo and this new photo of Mera.

Ender’s Game star Hailee Steinfeld is reportedly in talks to star in the first Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee. The news comes by way of Variety, which reports, much like the film itself, details on Steinfeld’s potential character are being kept under wraps.

Steinfeld’s other credits include True Grit, Pitch Perfect 2, and The Edge of Seventeen. She can be seen next in Pitch Perfect 3. The Transformers spinoff, meanwhile, was officially confirmed last year. The script comes from Christina Hudson, with Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg, and Lorenzo di Bonaventura on as producers. Travis Knight, who helmed Kubo and the Two Strings, will be making his live-action directorial debut. Earlier this year, Bay revealed Bumblebee isn’t the only Transformers spinoff in the works. According to the director, 14 more stories have already been written.

Warner Bros. is reportedly considering legal action against Universal over its ‘Dark Universe’ monster movie franchise. Last week it was announced that Universal Pictures’ classic monsters shared universe is now officially known as the ‘Dark Universe’ franchise, and THR reports that Warners is “mulling” legal action (via a studio source), as its very own ‘Dark Universe’ banner encompasses its upcoming Justice League Dark movie – currently working-titled Dark Universe – and a series of comic books.  You can see how it might get…confusing. Dark Universe’s core creatives are The Mummy director Alex Kurtzman, Chris Morgan (producer behind The Fast and the Furious Franchise), Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation director), and David Koepp (writer of 2002’s Spider-Man). The Tom Cruise-starring The Mummy will be the first out of the gate, followed by Bride of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man.

In the event that Warner Bros. greenlights a sequel to Wonder Woman, the film will reportedly have a contemporary setting. According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Patty Jenkins is prepared to helm a followup film that takes Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince to modern day. It’s important to note that while a second Wonder Woman movie has not yet officially been greenlit by Warner Bros., Gadot and Jenkins are contractually committed to making another movie.

Beauty and the Beast actor Josh Gad has been posting some curious Batman-related imagery to his social media. Gad tweeted a photo on June 1st of himself at DC Entertainment’s offices holding a Batman cover featuring the Penguin and standing alongside DC Films co-bosses Geoff Johns and Jon Berg. Gad’s caption: “Nothing to see here…”

Gad’s June 1st tweet wasn’t the first time he’s teased Penguin on his social media. Gad previously tweeted an image of Penguin on May 2nd without any context. When MTV later asked Gad about it, the actor laughed it off as, “Just having some fun.” He added, “There’s no there there. I promise you. … Just putting some things out there.” However, Gad then said he “would absolutely be open to playing the Penguin in the Batman movie,” although he admitted he’d never met the film’s director, Matt Reeves. “There’s nothing more we need to talk about,” Gad laughed. “It’s all … we’ll see. Putting it out in the ether.”

So are Josh Gad and DC just having some fun riling fans up? Probably. Or maybe they are indeed hinting at something bigger. After all, Batman star (and then-director) Ben Affleck previously used Twitter to tease Joe Manganiello as Deathstroke (a character and cast member who may no longer even be in the next Batman film since it’s now being overhauled).
