Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to work on both parts of Avengers: Infinity War. “I’m going to be executive producing the Avengers films with the Russo brothers, which I’m very excited about,” Favreau told Digital Spy. The director/producer carried an executive producer title on both previous Avengers films, and Iron Man 3, with Age of Ultron being his latest project with Marvel.

Favreau continued, saying he’s “constantly looking” to work with Marvel, and now that he’s “freed up,” he’s doing just that. Part 1 of Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to hit theaters May 4, 2018. As to why he turned down directing duties for 2013’s Iron Man 3, Favreau said he wanted time away from the franchise to “explore other things.” One of those “other things” turned out to be a live-action adaptation of Disney’s The Jungle Book, which debuted atop the domestic box office this past weekend. Favreau has already been tapped to direct the sequel.

Willem Dafoe is set to become a good guy in DC’s Justice League movies. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, that’s all the information we’re getting for now. Dafoe will be appearing in both parts of the Justice League movies, but we don’t know any more details of his character beyond him being one of the good guys. Dafoe, of course, played bad guy Green Goblin in the first Spider-Man film.

Dafoe is joining the likes of Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, and J.K. Simmons in their roles as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Commissioner Gordon respectively. The films will be directed by Zack Snyder, hot off the heels of directing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Justice League began production last week, and is due for release on November 17, 2017.

X-23 to Appear in Wolverine 3?

Posted: April 23, 2016 in Movie

There’s a new rumor making the rounds that the character X-23 will make an appearance in the upcoming Wolverine 3. According to Superheo Hype, should this prove to be true, she’d be joining Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier, and possibly Liev Schreiber, who has expressed interest to Jackman about returning to the role of Sabertooth after playing him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

While the story maintains that nothing has been confirmed, the possibility of Laura Kinney — a female clone of Wolverine — making her big-screen debut is certainly an interesting one. Earlier this year, we learned that Wolverine 3 would not only be Jackman’s last outing as the iconic X-Men member, but that it would also be rated R.

Emilia Clarke has definitively said she won’t be playing Sarah Connor again in the future. Talking to ComingSoon about the possibility of appearing in another Terminator sequel, Clarke simply responded “No… Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”

Emilia Clarke will be leaving the role of Sarah Connor behind and starring in Me Before You, a romantic film based on the novel of the same name. We’ll also be seeing Clarke on our television screens very soon with the premiere of Season 6 of Game of Thrones just around the corner. Terminator Genisys grossed $440 million worldwide despite mediocre reviews. While one of the film’s producers says the franchise is now “re-adjusting,” the Genisys sequel has since been removed from Paramount’s release schedule.

Robert Downey, Jr. and director Guy Ritchie may be starting work on a third Sherlock Holmes film this year. While in the United Kingdom as part of his Captain America: Civil War tour, Downey, Jr. expects to meet with Ritchie to discuss the film. “He’ll say, ‘I’ll meet you on my bike,’ all that sort of macho stuff,” Downey, Jr. told ShortList. “I’ve always considered riding a bike in London as taking your life in your own hands. Guy makes it look easy.”

Busy schedules have been a problem in the past—and part of the reason 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was delayed—but when the team does get down to business, “it is off the hook.” Downey, Jr. added, “If we could shoot it on Skype, we could have the whole [movie] done in a week.”

“We’ll attempt to make one this year. It really is a big deal to go and do those movies. I’m tired all the time, but I’m so excited about it.” Sherlock Holmes debuted in theaters in 2009, with follow-up Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows premiering in 2011. Downey Jr. will next appear in Captain America: Civil War, which hits theaters May 6.

While X-Men: Apocalypse ushers in a new, young Jean Grey in Sophie Turner, Famke Janssen—who first starred as the telepathic mutant in Fox’s original trio of X-Men films—would like to see the return of her older take on the character as well. Janssen told Entertainment Weekly she’s “really excited” to see the introduction of young Jean Grey, noting that several of the older X-Men characters have appeared alongside their younger counterparts in the more recent films and she would like to do the same.

However, Janssen went on to point out that while the women are often replaced in the new X-films, many of the older male characters have appeared alongside their younger selves — she even calls it “sexism.” As such, she believes she should “be back along with [her] younger version and the way that we’ve seen it with Magneto and Professor X.”

The actress also said that Turner reached out over email looking for pointers on playing Jean Grey, to which she replied, “You don’t need any. You’re perfect. You’re great,” emphasizing the fact that she “can’t wait” to see X-Men: Apocalypse and what Turner has done with the role.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has again confirmed that the upcoming Spider-Man solo movie in 2017 will be a part of the MCU, and that there’s a chance an Avenger or two could show up in it. “He is in the universe now, and the fun of the universe is that characters go back and forth,” Feige said in an interview with EW. When it was first announced last year that Spidey would appear in Captain America: Civil War, Feige intimated that the solo film would also be part of the MCU, and that Marvel’s deal with Sony allowed MCU characters to appear in it. “Well, we’re producing it for Sony. It’s exciting, and we’re treating it like we treat all of our films,” Feige said. “To try to make the best version now of Spider-Man and a version of Spider-Man that inhabits this universe that we’ve created.”

If the rumors that the new film will be titled Spider-Man: Homecoming are true, Feige’s new remarks might be significant since the 1984 Homecoming story line featured appearances by Iron Man and Captain America. Also, in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel where Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr. talked about the struggles of filming in Atlanta, Downey, Jr. let it slip that they would have to return soon to Atlanta, where Spider-Man is set to film. That doesn’t necessarily mean the pair will be in the solo film, so we’ll have to wait and see what the Iron Man star meant with those comments… Whether it’ll be called Homecoming or not, the latest Spider-Man reboot will star British actor Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Marissa Tomei as Aunt May. Directed by Jon Watts, the movie will focus on the wallcrawler’s time in high school and will have a “John Hughes vibe” when it comes out on July 7, 2017

Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige has announced that the director and cast for the upcoming Captain Marvel film will be announced within the coming months. Speaking to Fandango, Feige said: “I think we’ll be announcing a filmmaker in the next month or two, and probably some cast members later in the summer, at the end of the summer.” Little’s known about the Captain Marvel film as yet, other than that it’s being written by a duo whose combined credits include Inside Out and Guardians of the Galaxy. Feige also confirmed that the film would be “about Carol Danvers and that journey to being Captain Marvel.” Possible choices for the lead role include Mission Impossible’s Rebecca Ferguson and MMA star Ronda Rousey, who’s made her interest in playing Danvers very clear. Captain Marvel is set to hit theaters on March 8, 2019.

Ray Fisher’s Cyborg may soon be joining forces with Ezra Miller’s The Flash, if recent comments by Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice producer Deborah Snyder are any indication. While speaking with Forbes about the studio’s upcoming slate of DC superhero films, Snyder hinted at Cyborg’s inclusion in Warner Bros.’ Flash solo feature, telling the outlet: “When we get to The Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice comradery with each other.”

The producer went on to note that because “Ezra is super funny,” fans can expect the tone of The Flash to “be very different than the rest of them.” Snyder also highlighted the company’s “director-driven” approach, which has made it “really important to get really good talent involved in these films.” As such, “it’s all about the director’s point of view and what they can bring to it, so they feel unique and different, and the stories can be unique to the characters.”

In addition to appearing in both Justice League films, Fisher will also star in his own standalone Cyborg film, which debuts in 2020. Earlier this week, director Zack Snyder offered a bit of insight into Cyborg’s brief scene in Batman v Superman, confirming the inclusion of New Gods tech within the DC Cinematic Universe. The Flash is being directed by Seth Grahame-Smith and opens in theaters on March 16, 2018.
